Skelton Show Committee handed GNAAS Cheque for £2,110

Skelton Show Committee handed GNAAS Cheque for £2,110

Skelton Show Committee handed GNAAS a cheque for £2,110 from funds raised at the annual Skelton Show Dinner Dance. The dance was held at the Roundthorn Hotel, Penrith recently where 110 people, including the show committee and friends, came together for a night of good food and craic with dancing to Only Smith & Day.

In his speech, outgoing show chairman Colin Atkinson praised the hard work of everyone involved in organising another very successful show and with special thanks to the Skelton Young Farmers who had also been a tremendous help.

A raffle and auction held on the night raised £800 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.  The show committee would like to thank Sue Atkinson for coordinating this, including some superb prizes.

Members of the Skelton Show Committee were invited afterwards to visit the recently refurbished GNAAS premises at Langwathby.  They were delighted to hand over a cheque totalling £2,110 made up of contributions made during last July’s show day as well as the dinner dance raffle.

The visit, which lasted approximately 30 minutes, allowed the team to be introduced to the on-duty crew who provided an interesting overview of their working environment, and also an in-depth tour of the helicopter itself – all very fascinating.

Meike Tennant, Community Fundraiser for GNAAS said: “We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from the Skelton Show Committee this year. As a charity, we do not receive Government funding and therefore need to raise £8.5m a year to remain operational. The funds raised during the Skelton Show and at the annual Dinner Dance are greatly appreciated, and will help our critical care team continue to respond to incidents across the region. Thank you again for all you and the other Committee Members have done for our charity, and I look forward to another wonderful Skelton Show in 2024.”

The committee are now busy working on preparations for next year’s Skelton Show which will be held on Saturday 6th July 2024 at Hutton in the Forest.
