04/07/12 EVENTS CONTINUING IN 2012
Following the disappointment of having to cancel this years show on Saturday the committee are pleased to announce that three events will continue.

The popular schools challenge kindly sponsored by the Cumberland Building Society will take place in Skelton village hall on Saturday morning. Local primary schools will compete in the competition where they have to submit a display on a theme of their own choice with various contributions from different year groups.
Judges are the Rev and Mrs R Hall and anybody can call in from 11am to see who as won and have a cup of coffee. Thanks most go to Mrs Jean Parker and the children's committee for their enthusiasm to proceed with this competition.

It had previously been decided to move the show jumping classes to Nord Vue at Armathhwaite. Seven classes will be held under BSJA rules throughout the day from 9am. Entries are being taken on the day and light refreshments, ice cream and Slacks Equestrian Supplies will be on site for anybody wishing to pop along and enjoy the jumping. Further details can be obtained from the equestrian secretary Caroline Brier on 01768 881933.

It is also intended to hold the Skelton Show qualifier of the new sheep 'Cumbria Handler of the Year' competition at Penrith Auction Mart during the summer.

Chairman Adam Fawcett said ' Following the disappointment of having to cancel the show it is good that we have been able to continue with these competitions. We are very grateful for the words of sympathy we have received from my exhibitors, fellow show organisers and members of the public. We are talking to our landlord about improving the field drainage at Hutton in the Forest and are already planning for the 2013 show which will be held on Saturday 6 July - so get the date in your diary'.

SKELTON SHOW CANCELLED THIS SATURDAY

It is with a heavy heart and much regret that the committee has to announce that they will be unable to hold Skelton Show this Saturday.

Despite hoping that the sodden showground at Hutton-in-the-Forest would stand a chance of drying out, with little wind or sun and further rain forecast we now have to accept this is unlikely to happen.

To be fair to exhibitors, trade stands, sponsors and all involved, the committee met again on site tonight and agreed it would be unwise to continue. The show jumping classes have already been moved to Nord Vue at Armathwaite and will continue this Saturday. Unfortunately due to a packed summer schedule it will not be possible to re-arrange the show this year.

Chairman Adam Fawcett said ‘It is extremely disappointing to have to cancel this major event in the agricultural calendar. This year we had record entries and trade stand numbers, some fabulous entertainment and several championship classes with large prize money’.

Show Director John Slee praised ‘the hard work of officials and hopes that everybody understands that it would have been irresponsible to continue this weekend’.

Treasurer Beverly Bargh says ‘Obviously postponement will incur additional costs and whilst exhibitors and sponsors will be given the opportunity of a full refund, it is hoped that they will be willing to roll on money paid to the 2013 show’.

Committee members after making decision to cancel show

30/06/12 An inspection of the showfield was carried out this morning. Whilst there are some wet areas the bulk of the field is in remarkably good condition. The committee therefore decided to postpone a final decision as to whether the show goes ahead, until after a further inspection on Tuesday evening.

As we have received record entries we are determined to do everything we can to put on as much of the show as possible. We may however need to cancel some classes and will be moving the showjumping to Nord Vue Armathwaite. Our equestrian secretary will provide competitors with further details.

Further updates will be provided as next week progresses.

28/06/12 SHOW STILL HOPING TO GO AHEAD Just to keep you informed that despite the poor weather, at present we still hope to be able to hold Skelton Show next Saturday 7th July 2012. This is subject to an inspection of the field which is taking place this Saturday morning.
